Are there any other photo-editing programmes that can be used for this?
Yes, you can use GIMP, for example. The following steps will help you achieve the desired result.
- Load the three images for the different colour channels into three separate layers.
- Extract the red, green and blue channels in each respective layer
Colours -> Components -> Extract Component -> [RGB Red, RGB Green, RGB Blue] - Colour each layer red, green and blue
Colours -> Colourise -> [red (255, 0, 0), green (0, 255, 0), blue (0, 0, 255)] - Merge the layers using the ‘Merge Layers’ function (Mode Addition)
